Frequently asked questions
At Newcastle Medial Hub we do not bulk bill. We do offer a discounted consult fee for healthcare and pension card holders.
As long as Medicare have your correct bank details we can send the billing to them electronically and the rebate will go into your account sometimes immediately if you bring your card with you, otherwise within 48 hours.
If you are not able to make your appointment let us know asap by calling the practice. If you cancel on HotDoc we cannot guarantee that it cancels at our end. Failure to cancel within 2 hours of your booked appointment may result in a $70 fee which must be paid before you can book further appointments with the practice.
To get an appointment to see a specialist, you need to have a referral from your GP within the previous 12 months. A referral can never be backdated!
If you have seen the doctor in the last 12 months, it is possible in many cases to get a repeat referral or script without seeing the doctor. Please note this is not for a new medication or to see a provider to whom your doctor has not referred you to previously. You can now obtain repeat scripts and referrals through the HotDoc app.
Reminders are sent from Newcastle Medical Hub to remind you, and your treating team, to take an action that may be critical to your health. Recalls are when you are called back in relation to the results of a test you have taken. We only contact you by text reminders and calls if it is important to your health.
You can cancel your appointment on the HotDoc app up to two hours before your appointment. If you cancel after this time, it will not cancel off our appointment book in the surgery and as such you will be charged a non-attendance fee. If you are in doubt, please call us on 4989 6999. The non-attendance fee is $70.00, we would rather provide you with care than an account for not attending.
Please don’t call us to get your results as we cannot handle or discuss them over the phone. When your GP orders tests for you, you can talk to them about how you would like to get your results. Your GP might ask you to come and get them, alternatively you can get the results sent to your home in a hard copy if you request it at the time of your examination.
After your GP checks your results, you will be sent a message about what those results mean for you. If they require some further action, we will send you a message asking you to book an appointment.
